ger dogs

Mongolian nomads living on the central Asian steppes, believe that dogs are reincarnated as humans, treating them as well as they would any of their children.

The nomads live in gers, circular felt tents, that are guarded by these vicious and potentially rabid, mongrels.

When approaching a ger it is customary for visitors to call out ‘nohoi khorio’, translated as ‘call off the dogs’.

This ensures that an occupant of the ger restrains the dogs before ushering the guest inside.
